Presentations Update: March 2015

Shawn Tejiram, MD presented a poster at the 2015 All Surgeon's Day Conference held March 7, 2015 at the Hyatt Regency in Washington, DC. This conference is the DC Chapter’s meeting of the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Tejiram’s poster was on the use of MRSA screening nasal swabs to determine management and predict outcomes in burn patients. The presentation was titled: Are Screening Nasal Swabs To Detect MRSA Clinically Useful In Predicting Outcomes In Adult Burn Centers: A Large Regional Burn Center's Experience. His coauthors on the work include Laura S. Johnson, MD, Brittany N. Hamilton, BS, Kimberly Johnson, BS, Jenny Zhang, BS, Lauren T. Moffatt, PhD, and Jeffrey W. Shupp, MD.

Hilary Hoffman, BS presented at the Association of Women Surgeon’s 6th Annual Student/Resident/Fellow Research Forum & Competition which took place at the 2015 All Surgeon’s Day (see above). Her talk was on the ReCell cell harvesting device and was titled MODIFIED USE OF A CELL HARVESTING DEVICE TO ALLOW FOR SEQUENTIAL AND SIMLTANEOUS PROCESSING OF DONOR SKIN SAMPLES: POTENTIAL REDUCTIONS IN COSTS AND TIME. Her coauthors were Bonnie Carney BS, Nick Prindeze BS, Lauren Moffatt PhD, Jeffrey Shupp MD, and Laura Johnson, MD FACS. Hilary’s talk was honored as a finalist in the AWS Competition.

Dr. Tejiram and Jenny Zhang, BS presented at the 2015 MedStar Health Research Institute Research Symposium held March 9, 2015 at the Sheraton Hotel in Columbia, MD. Dr. Tejiram’s poster presentation was titled: Vascularity and Perfusion Are Influenced by Compression Therapy in A Porcine Model of Hypertrophic Scar. His coauthors on the work include Taryn E. Travis, MD, Nick J. Prindeze, BS, Bonnie C. Carney, BS, Abdulnaser Alkhalil, PhD, Lauren T. Moffatt, PhD, Jessica C. Ramella-Roman, PhD, and Jeffrey W. Shupp, MD. Ms. Zhang’s poster presentation was titled Coagulopathy in Burn Patients: Perhaps not as Simple as PTT and INR, and her coauthors were Shawn Tejiram, MD, Brittany Hamilton, BS, Daniel Jo, BS, Lauren Moffatt, PhD, and Jeffrey Shupp, MD.

Dr. Tejiram also presented at the 2015 Collaborative Research Forum held March 12-14, 2015 at the Torrey Pines Lodge in La Jolla, CA. His oral presentation was on pressure induced vascular changes seen in hypertrophic scar.
